    It is recommended that you keep the Java VM up to date by installing the latest version available. To download and install the latest J2SE (Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition) JRE, please see http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp.

    To check if you already have Sun's JVM installed, or to find the version number:

  • Go to http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml, or

    •
  • Open a command prompt and type java -version [enter]. If Sun's JVM is present it will give you a version number.
    • For questions regarding any product, please check the download page to be sure you are using the latest version. Minor updates (i.e. v2.1 to 2.2) are free to licensed users, major updates (i.e. v2.x to 3.x) are available to licensed users at a discount.
